Overview

Work up an appetite on the Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges' tracks and trails, snowfields and golf courses, or float high above it all in a hot air balloon.

Up high or down below

Look down over the Yarra Valley on a sunrise balloon flight and pinpoint the locations for the rest of your day's activities.

Get your feet back on solid ground and explore the region's pristine national parks. Hike through towering forests to waterfalls and wineries, over rugged escarpments and along clear creeks.

There's great golfing at the Greg Norman–designed championship course at stunning Yering Gorge, and the Jack Nicklaus– designed green at Wonga Park's Heritage Golf and Country Club. Get swinging at the RACV Healesville Country Club, and in Warburton and Emerald.

Mountain trails and snowy slopes

Try mountain biking like a pro at the site of the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games mountain biking events, or hit the roads and rail trails for a different look at the region.

In winter, ski cross country, toboggan or have an old-fashioned snowball fight at Lake Mountain or Mount Donna Buang – Melbourne's two closest snow playgrounds.

Before you move on to the wineries and restaurants, find time to play a round of golf, catch a fish at a trout farm, or pitch your tent in preparation.
